Processing PA6, PA66, PC or PBT with glass fiber creates much higher abrasion than standard plastics. A conventional screw barrel may wear quickly, causing larger clearance, unstable plasticizing and lower production efficiency.

For 15–50% glass fiber materials, wear resistance should be considered when selecting a replacement screw and barrel. Bimetallic barrels and hard alloy screw surfaces can significantly improve durability in abrasive applications.

The correct solution also depends on screw diameter, L/D, glass fiber percentage, resin type and processing conditions.
